Group Therapy

All of our therapy groups take place at our office in Rochester, NY. Virtual groups are available to anyone living in New York State. 

Advanced Adult DBT Group

This virtual group integrates skills from all DBT modules to generate strategies for future skills use, problem solving, and effective planning. Sessions include member-led discussions and a deeper look at how DBT skills can address difficulties related to shame, abandonment, and managing loneliness. Participants must complete a DBT Skills Group treatment prior to attending this group, or have working knowledge of the content from a DBT Skills Group.

DBT Skills Group

DBT skills training is a weekly group, run like a class, which teaches skills across four main topics: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance skills. Clients are required to complete homework assignments in which they practice the skills taught during the weekly lesson. While the Mindfulness Group is recommended prior to joining this group, it is not required. This group meets virtually.

DBT for Trauma Group

This group combines principles and skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with psychoeducation about trauma and the trauma brain. It’s designed to help clients learn coping skills while also moving toward an understanding that intrusive thoughts, suppressed or intensified emotional responses, and defense mechanisms all develop as part of a journey of survival.

Intuitive Eating Group for Teens

This virtual group helps teenage girls explore a healthy relationship with food and their bodies. Intuitive Eating is a non-dieting approach that encourages building trust with your body and making food choices that feel good for you, without judgement or the influence of diet culture. Concepts are reviewed and discussed during weekly group meetings, which offer a safe space to gain support from a licensed therapist and like-minded peers.

Mindfulness for Trauma Group

Looking through the lens of trauma and PTSD, this DBT-informed mindfulness group aims to help clients improve awareness, practice acceptance, and find their way to the present moment. Participants gain education about trauma, why mindfulness can be challenging for the trauma brain, and also why mindfulness can be helpful to trauma healing. This group is a necessary prerequisite to our DBT for Trauma group

Nourishing the Self: Women’s Circle for Eating Disorder Relapse Prevention & Recovery for Empaths/HSP

This in-person group supports adult women who are recovering from eating disorders. It aims to break down barriers, reinforce healthy coping strategies, and target specific symptoms to encourage relapse prevention. The group will address various aspects of recovery that includes further development of coping skills, as well as a variety of somatic techniques to assist us in being in (embodying) and befriending our bodies.

Mondays, 6:00-7:30pm

Sexual Violence Support Group

This virtual group is offered to women who have experienced intimate relationship violence, sexual abuse, rape, or sexual assault. It provides education about sexual violence as well as emotional support from others who have had similar experiences. Participants must be connected with an individual therapist to join.

Traumatic Grief Group

This group offers a holistic perspective on loss while exploring the deep connection between grief and trauma. It offers virtual support for people working through loss of a significant person or other major loss. The group provides a supportive environment and space to be heard and connect, while learning coping skills and stress management techniques to help move through the grieving process.
