Brainspotting

Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma.

Understanding Brainspotting

Brainspotting psychotherapy (BSP), helps to manage suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), emotional dysregulation, anxiety and other depressive symptoms and disorders. It’s a powerful, focused treatment method that combines features of hypnotherapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of other challenging symptoms.

Brainspotting helps to locate, focus, process, and release experiences and symptoms that are typically out of reach of the conscious mind and its cognitive capacity. It works with the deep brain and body through its direct access to the autonomic and limbic systems, which are part of the body’s central nervous system. The treatment is enhanced with deep, direct, and powerful Biolateral sound. Grab your own headphones and listen to some of these Biolateral sounds on this Spotify playlist while practicing your own grounding and mindfulness at home.

How is Brainspotting different?

Brainspotting is not talk therapy. When you arrive to session, you’ll be asked to put on the headphones that are provided to you. From there, your therapist will begin playing calming biolateral sounds on a low volume. From there, your therapist will work collaboratively with you to find a Brainspot. When a Brainspot is stimulated, the therapist knows that the source of the problem has been found. Your main role from here will be to notice any thoughts, feelings, or physical sensations that arise. There’s no need to “try” or “make” anything happen. Your body knows exactly what it needs to find healing. You will work on processing that Brainspot for most of the session.
