KAP

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy is psychedelic medicine for the treatment of emotional suffering.

We offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in partnership with the medical team at Journey Clinical.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible patients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms. Our team takes on the psychotherapy portion of the experience, while a medical team from Journey Clinical supports our clients with all medical needs throughout this process. This includes determining eligibility, developing a custom treatment plan, prescribing the medicine and monitoring outcomes.

What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a legal, safe and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and PTSD. Ketamine has rapidly- acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hours after treatment. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors as well as by stimulating AMPA receptors, which are thought to help form new synaptic connections and boost neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement.

Ketamine can be administered in a variety of ways, including IV infusion, intramuscular injection, via nasal spray and using sublingual lozenges. In our work with Journey Clinical we only use the sublingual lozenge form.

How does KAP work?

Read below to learn more about the Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy process. Clients may be recommended for more than one dosing session depending on progress made after the first session.

1. Initial Consultation

The initial consultation with a Journey Clinical prescriber, eligibiulity check and ketamine prescription.

2. Preparation Sessions

Preparation sessions are completed with the psychotherapist to align on the process and set intentions for the KAP dosing session.

3. KAP Dosing Session

You will self-administer your ketamine lozenge at our office or remotely (via teletherapy).

4. Integration Session

During integration sessions, you and your therapist review memories, thoughts and insights that arise during your dosing session.

5. Follow-Up Consultations

Follow-up consultations are conducted with the Journey Clinical prescriber and may include prescription refills, if eligible.

Ketamine + Internal Family Systems

Ketamine is a legal and FDA-approved psychedelic medication. Integrating psychotherapy with ketamine treatment prolongs the benefit from single ketamine treatments. Internal Family Systems (IFS) is well suited for use with psychedelic therapies because it embraces the multiplicity of the mind, seeks full consent continuously, enables reprocessing of traumatic memories, leverages the ketamine induced neuroplasticity in shifting neural networks involved in mood, memory and self perception. In this video, Dr Grant shares his clinical experience of integrating ketamine-assisted psychotherapy with IFS; the process and outcomes will be presented.
