Sara Adams, LCSW-R
Co-Founder + Trauma Therapist
Sara Adams (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-R) and co-owner of Sustainable Wellness. She conducts individual therapy, EMDR Intensives, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, Clinical Supervision, and EMDR Consultation through Sustainable Wellness.Â
Sara started her social work career in 2011 after six years of working in various non-profits. She has worked in a variety of mental health settings in the U.S. and abroad, including multiple Alternative to Detention (ATD) programs, multisystemic work with violent and at-risk youth and their families, addiction and dual diagnosis treatment, and community-based treatment for those living with serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI). In 2012, Sara spent three months in Rwanda, Africa, conducting a needs assessment and providing recommendations about the Deinstitutionalization (DI) of orphanages around the country.
Throughout Sara’s experiences, she discovered that many mental health struggles link back to unresolved traumas. She eventually became certified in EMDR therapy, a foundation for much of her work with clients today. Sara also regularly integrates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic work, and Schema Therapy into her therapeutic approach with clients.Â
Sara received her Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree from Tulane University in 2012 where she also obtained a certificate in Global Social Work (GSW). She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from St. Bonaventure University in 2006. She currently sits on the Executive Board of Directors for Elevate Nepal, a nonprofit that supports education, employment, infrastructure and public health efforts in Nepal. Sara also co-owns Reframe Diabetes, which provides education and support around the psychological components of diabetes management.
Sara is happily married to her husband who she met on a NYC Subway over a conversation about his Buffalo Bills hat. She loves travel, writing, photography, culture, deep conversations, and spending time with her son and two pit bulls.
