Christina Burbelo, LMSW
Practice Coordinator + Coach
Christina (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Maryland. She received her Master of Social Work from University of Maryland, Baltimore with a concentration in behavioral health and a specialization in trauma. Social work is a career change for Christina. She received her degree in Interior Design from Drexel University and worked as a planner and designer for healthcare facilities for nearly a decade. While she was impacting people’s experience through the physical environment, she realized there were limitations in not addressing people’s experience from a more holistic framework. She shifted into social work as a way to help create more direct change with the people and communities she works with.
Christina has worked behind the scenes at Sustainable Wellness since 2022 assisting with various programs and administrative operations for clients and the practice as a whole. She enjoys acting as a liaison between staff and clients to ensure a smooth process for care at Sustainable Wellness. Along with acting as a practice liaison, Christina also offers diabetes coaching services. She enjoys working with people from all walks of life with diabetes, empowering them towards reaching their goals. Taking a trauma-informed approach to coaching, Christina approaches her work from a holistic mindset in acknowledging the individual as a whole and the various systems at play, all while getting to the root of the obstacles standing in their way. She believes in working with her clients. She sees her clients as experts of their own experiences and herself as a guide along their journey to reaching their goals.
With this, she pulls from various modalities to create a coaching experience that is tailored to the client sitting in front of her. She approaches her work from a non-judgmental place and incorporates mindfulness and acceptance-based work in her coaching practices. At this time, Christina works with teens and adults navigating the daily challenges that come with living with diabetes.
In her free time, Christina writes about living with chronic illness and sheds light on the intersection of chronic illness and mental health. She also works with Sara Adams at Reframe Diabetes, serving as the Marketing Director for the virtual Diabetes + Mental Health Conference, a virtual event focused on the intersection of diabetes management and mental health. Outside of this, you can find Christina exploring the quieter parts of life: whether it’s enjoying the local coffee shops, exploring the outdoors, horseback riding, reading books, listening to podcasts, or finding comfort in rainy days.
